About Our History

"No memory is ever alone; it's at the end of a trail of memories,
a dozen trails that each have their own associations." – Louis L'Amour

Walt Odom Sr. founded Walt's Jewelers in Mammoth, Arizona; a small mining town, founded in 1872, in southern Arizona. Originally, the store was called Walt's Jewel Box.

In 1962, Walt Odom relocated to Kearny, Arizona using the name Walt's Jewelers.

Samuel Odom, Walt Odom's son, started managing the Kearny store, and would later go on to purchase the business from his father.

In 1984, Samuel and his wife, Melissa Odom, made the decision to move the store to Chandler, Arizona, a city then on the outskirts of Phoenix, Arizona. Walt's Jewelers, was located on the southwest corner of Ray and Alma School Roads, in Chandler, Arizona, for approximately 16 years.

With the new millennium came time for another move, this time to the northwest corner of Ray and Alma School Roads, just across the street.

At the end of 2007, Samuel and Melissa moved Walt's Jewelers to our current location in Gilbert, Arizona.

In a business where trust and integrity are fundamental, Walt's Jewelers has become the benchmark. On 16 October 2014, Walt's Jewelers entered it's next phase as it became a third generation business with the partnering of Samuel & Melissa Odom and their son and his wife Javier & Stephanie Odom. Javier & Stephanie will be carrying on a tradition begun by his grandfather 58 years earlier, in 1956.

Gilbert, Arizona

In 1902, the Arizona Eastern Railway asked for donations of right of way in order to establish a rail line between Phoenix, Arizona and Florence, Arizona. A rail siding, which is a short stretch of railroad track used to store rolling stock or to enable trains on the same lane to pass, was established on property owned by William "Bobby" Gilbert. The railroad siding, and the town that sprung up around it, eventually became known as Gilbert.
Gilbert, Arizona was incorporated on 06 July 1920.

Gold has been a valuable and highly sought-after precious metal for coinage, jewelry, and other arts since long before the beginning of recorded history. Gold standards have been the most common basis for monetary policies throughout human history, being widely supplanted by fiat currency starting in the 1930s. The last gold certificate and gold coin currencies were issued in the U.S. in 1932. In Europe, most countries left the gold standard with the start of World War I in 1914 and, with huge war debts, failed to return to gold as a medium of exchange.
